band-i-amir

i know what they did.i was there when the most magnificent thing on earth was still untouched.crystalline copper sulphate stalactites and stalagtites, coleured from light aquamarine to deep lapis and emerald.then last year i saw a tiny photo in the newspaper where a cave was chickenwired and had some kind of mortar on it.last week on the internet this was gone.alltraces of these amazing precious gifts from
God were filled in with mud and now simply fit in with the rest of the adobe  moonscape that is now afghanistan.how could they do that?nobody could live there it was too poisonious.(God forbid someone would find shelter from american bombs!)if someone were going to get in there to shoot, what would they shoot at?the monstrous beauty of the lakes?
i didnt bring a camera.i thought i could just write about them and i would remember;but that was so long ago.the little flowers of verdigris in  rainbows of green and  blue  at the point where one small pool flowed into another in a series of tiny cascades until the cooling water reached the lake.the amount of destruction of treasures in addition to humans by the american military is truly almost unbelievable.
i wonder whats next.mohenjo daro?perhaps i shouldnt give them ideas...
